Mater Private Hospital

Location    Eccles Street, Dublin 7

Mater Private Hospital is a leading private hospital based in Dublin 7 which has offered specialist clinics, treatment and care to patients since 1986. This project involved the development of an additional floor at roof level at the front of the hospital and three floors to the rear, to provide new accommodation including inpatient wards, day oncology, and an additional operating theatre suite. The main reception area was also refurbished and a central atrium was provided to the existing lightwell to improve light levels and enhance the entrance foyer and waiting area. The development required an increase in part of the Eccles Street south elevation of the Hospital by one-storey to correspond with the height of the existing west wing, along with extensions to existing floors. Other ancillary alterations to the hospital were also proposed.

Tom Phillips + Associates (TPA) provided strategic planning advice to the Applicant and Design Team, and served as the Agent for the Planning Application and subsequent Appeal stages. TPA prepared and co-ordinated a detailed Planning and Environmental Report and prepared appeal responses, where relevant. Dublin City Council issued a Notification of Decision to Grant Permission for the scheme on 22nd September 2011. Following the lodgement of a Third Party Appeal and the making of a comprehensive response by TPA, the Board granted permission for the development on 10th April 2012. A subsequent application to amend the permission was lodged and consequently granted by Dublin City Council on 23rd September 2013.
