Irish Life Assurance plc wish to develop and significantly refurbish their Headquarters complex at Abbey Street Lower, Dublin 1.

The site occupies a prominent position on the corner of Abbey Street Lower and Gardiner Street Lower and runs westward along Abbey Street Lower as far as (and including) Northumberland Square and beyond (towards Marlborough Street).

The project includes some building demolition (to provide more open space) and other demolition to improve access to existing open space, to enhance the visibility of the adjacent loopline railway arches (Protected Structures) and to relocate the iconic Oisin Kelly Sculpture (‘Chariot of Life’) to a new and more prominent setting within the main plaza of the complex.

Our Role

Tom Phillips + Associates (TPA) provided strategic planning advice to the Applicant, working closely with the Design Team and specialist heritage and arts consultants.
We also led the preparation of the successful planning application.

Planning Outcome

Planning permission granted by Dublin City Council on 21st July 2016. Works are due to commence in early September 2016.
